Wildfire ignition causes investigation in the North of Portugal

— examples in the municipality
of Cabeceiras de Basto

Enjoy the cultural landscapes of northern Portugal until we reach the municipality of Cabeceiras de Basto, where you can see the diversity of forest stands. Pinus pinaster and deciduous forests predominate, although eucalyptus monoculture has gained ground.

The process of investigating the causes of the 2024 wildfire ignitions will be presented and discussed.

Interaction with local actors (e.g., representatives of the Common Land Management Board, parish and town council presidents, forestry services, and local communities) will enable the observation and understanding of the effectiveness of various actions developed to prevent fire ignitions.
